Brands that I've been eyeing (conscious shopping)

Wanting to buy more luxury pieces that withstand the hands of time is a honourable resolution to have. But unless you have a money tree growing in your backyard, this also means you need to stop making little purchases here and there of clothes that will only end up at Goodwill.

Being more conscious about what brands I give my money to has been a goal of mine for the past couple of years. I’ve since stopped shopping at Zara, Aritzia, and a few other brands that pump out clothes that just don’t last. I typically purge my closet every few months or so and every time I do, I take note of the brands that I always seem to be donating clothes from. This awareness, paired with needing to save money for my Italy move, has really motivated me to stop paying attention to what pieces in my closet I keep around and given me a totally different outlook when it comes to shopping.

So if you’re also wanting to change up the way you purchase, I wanted to share some brands I’ve been keeping an eye on with more classic and high quality pieces that you’ll never get sick of.

Soft Goat - Soft Goat is a brand based in Copenhagen with the most beautiful cashmere pieces I’ve ever seen. I own 1 black alpaca cashmere sweater from them that is just about the softest and warmest thing ever and I have a few of their other pieces on my wish list. Like this greyge cardigan that has the perfect crop or this classic boyfriend fit crewneck.

Low Classics - If you follow me on TikTok, you’ll know that I’ve been really aligning with Korean brands lately. Korea is a massive manufacturer for the fashion industry and is the home to so many brands that focus on fit, style, and quality. I bought a pair of wool trousers and an oversized dress shirt from them while I was in Milan last and both pieces have such an amazing cut and fit. I was also wearing the trousers when I flew off a e-bike and after some dry cleaning, they looked brand new. That experience really showed me the importance of being picky with your fabrics.

James Street Co - I actually discovered this brand from one of my current favourite casual fashion girlies that I follow, Chloe Mihailo. I’ve gotten rid of every single fast-fashion sweater I’ve purchased in the past and that absolutely breaks my heart. The only sweaters that really remain in my closet are either thrifted sweaters (ironically the most affordable sweater purchases) and newer pieces I’ve invested in. I don’t yet own any thing from James Street Co. but I have my eye on their Chunky Lowe sweater.

Paloma Wool - Although basics are an easy buy because you know it’s something that you can dress up or down, I love brands like Paloma Wool that put a unique spin on classic pieces. Things like this grey zip up cardigan or this blue one with a sporty touch.

The Line By K - This is another brand that adds a fun twist to modern basics. I have their Smythson Top saved because I love the layered look but even something like their Lavi tee with the curved hem can really elevate a simple outfit.

Damson Madder - If you like bold pieces and have been obsessed with Copenhagen and Portuguese fashion like I’ve been, then you’ll love Damson Madder. They use bold patterns and colours along with unique elements (think bows and frills) to spice up classic silhouettes. I have quite a few of their pieces on my wishlist currently.

If you’re also on your “invest in nicer pieces” journey currently, I hope this gives you a few more unique brands to explore. Also if you think our aesthetic is the same, please respond to this email and send me brands that you love!
